TIME OF SINGING
The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land.
Music is everywhere in our world. Through all the various devices, music can be with us anywhere at any time. It is difficult to imagine a time when there was no recorded music, and hard to believe how powerful songs were for people who lived in earlier times like when King Solomon was writing today's Bible verse.
“The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land.” (Song of Solomon 2:12)
As we read the "Song of Solomon," we can picture this song repeated throughout Solomon's kingdom, Imagine it was sung over and over again, by many people in many places. Every time it was sung from their mouths, Every time they saw flowers in a field, it reminded the singers of God's miraculous creation, and all God had done for them.
“speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” (Ephesians 5:19)
Songs can have a similar effect on us. Paul said we are to sing with each other with hymns and songs. These expressions are expressed in a language that reminds us of Biblical principles and truths. They help us to remember God's work in our own lives and the lives of other people throughout history.
“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble.” (Psalm 59:16)
Biblical songs can create the proper tone for our hearts and minds. They can also lift our spirits and help prevent us from being saturated by corruption in the world.
Fill your life with songs and hymns, and allow God to use these songs to be the rhythm of your day. Let God use music to teach you, remind you, and inspire you.
Heavenly Father, remind me today of Your truth through songs and hymns. Please Help my heart to be filled with songs of thanksgiving and praise to You. Help me to worship You throughout my day today! In Jesus' name, Amen.
