Audio Version

Jesus knew that Peter would deny Him three times, but still, Jesus prayed for Him. He had a purpose in praying for Peter. Jesus knew that Peter would turn back to Him, and Jesus had a job for Peter to do once he did.

“But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:32)

Jesus still wanted to entrust Peter with a job even though he would first deny Him. Even more surprising, the directions Jesus gave Peter were not just for him; they were also for us. How amazing that no matter how much time we have spent with our backs turned to God, He wants to forgive us and welcome us into a forever relationship with Him if we trust our lives to God, and use us.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

We need to repent and turn our lives back to God and do not miss the gift of God’s forgiveness when we refuse to humble ourselves and seek God’s mercy by turning our lives to God and His ways.

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

Many of us have turned to God, but are failing to do the job that He has given us. What role did Jesus give Peter when he would turn his back to Him? To pray and strengthen others. If only we would understand that God’s grace is not to keep to ourselves. In commanding us to love God and others above ourselves, Jesus gives us the job of bringing God’s love, strength, and mercy to the world around us.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

God provides us with the responsibility of telling the world about the Gospel. God gives us the responsibility of sharing with the world about the Gospel. God entrusts us with the job of turning to Him not only to enjoy the countless blessings that we have in our lives, but to truly live for God and minister God’s love to a broken, wounded, weak world in need of God’s forgiveness, salvation, strength, and protection.

Have you turned to God and asked Jesus to be the Lord of your life? Are you helping others?

Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me the responsibility for sharing Your Gospel with the world. Today I take this responsibility, and I dedicate my life to serving You by ministering God’s love to the others. Thank you for the opportunity you have given me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
