ON THE SAME TEAM
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. For he who is not against us is on our side.
If you are a sports fan, then you have heard the noise that fans of a team make. While watching the game at home in your living room might give you a better view of the game, it is never the same as being at the game, hearing the cheering of your team from the stands.
“But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. For he who is not against us is on our side.” (Mark 9:39-40)
A special energy develops from being part of a team, whether that team is to win a game or to bring people to Christ. When we ask Jesus in our lives, we give Him permission to reshape our values and our outlook on our lives. That is what it means to make Jesus our Lord and Savior. We put Jesus in charge of how we live today as well as where we will spend eternity. We join Jesus' team and start to promote God’s kingdom.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
Jesus tells us all to share the Good News of the Gospel to the world. The message that He has set us free, and He will set things right forever. No one person is too old or too young to bring people to Jesus. Wherever we have come from, and whatever we have done, we all have a place on this team.
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26-28)
The same way a team builds off the energy of its fans, we can draw strength from one another. When our minds are unified with Jesus the way He is unified with God, anything is possible. Paul reminds us of this special power that is available to us.
“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6)
Jesus calls us to be one and work together for His glory. When we tell Jesus “Yes,” we are clothed with His righteousness, and everyone, regardless of skin color, age, social status, or past life experience, has a role to play.
Is there someone you need to build up this week?
Heavenly Father, as part of the body of Christ, You have said to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. I have told You “Yes,” and now I am clothed with Jesus’ righteousness, and I know I have a role to play. The message that I have been set free is the message I have to share with others. I will share the Good News and build up those that come across my pathway. Father, use me to help others this day. I worship You, my Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
