THE PERSON OF JESUS

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

AUDIO VERSION

Paul explains to the Colossians about the person of Jesus and what it is to have reconciliation with God. Reconciliation is the act by God, through Jesus' atonement, that brings people who are at odds with God back into a peaceful, proper relationship with Him.

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." (Colossians 1:15-16)

Firstborn indicates Jesus' priority before all creation. Since by Him were all things created, Jesus must have existed before the universe, and Jesus must be greater than all He made.

Because Jesus was present at creation, He came before all things and reigns supreme over all things. To worship Jesus is to put Him in His rightful place. He is worthy of our praise.

“and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” (Colossians 1:20-23)

Having made peace through the blood of the cross, by Jesus to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, If we continue in faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the Gospel, which we have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; where Paul was made a minister;

Before Jesus, God revealed Himself through the Law and the prophets. But when Jesus came on the scene, He tangibly showed who God is. Jesus is God in the flesh. This is why it is important for us to know who Jesus is, what He has done, and to be willing to tell others.

What do you need to surrender to Him today?

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for Jesus and His life to redeem me from the sin and darkness of this world. You so loved me, and now You live in me so I can share Your love with others. This is so needed today with all that is happening. Use me to show that love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
