STUDYING THE WORD OF GOD
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
Have you ever done a job that you would prefer not to put your name on? Maybe you were rushed at work, and you did not do your best. Or maybe your heart was not in it, and so you put in as little effort as you could to get it done. Maybe you were asked to do something you did not have the training, and it showed.
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.” (2 Timothy 2:15-16)
You did not put pride in your work in all of these cases, and you might feel embarrassed or ashamed. Spiritually speaking, Paul urges Timothy to avoid this experience in living the daily Christian life.
Too often, we believe that studying the Bible only consists of the discipline of setting a time of day and opening your Bible. We often think that if we are Spirit-filled Believers, the Bible is just going to make sense to us without any need for cross-referencing, Bible studies, considering other passages with the broader context in its chapter, book, and testament.
Here is where the work comes! By studying the Bible every day just like you are doing in today’s devotion.
You are invited to study the Bible with us each day, and we will study a new Bible verse every day.
Come and grow your passion for the Bible as we explore how to study God’s Word more efficiently. There is absolutely no prior knowledge necessary – and you are invited!
Will you make a point to study God’s Word more this year?
Heavenly Father, I will be diligent to present myself approved to You. I will be a worker who does not need to be ashamed. I thank You for Your Holy Spirit within me, giving me strength and wisdom to do all things right. I will listen to Your Words as I study each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
