AUDIO VERSION

Psalms are full of insights into the plans of God, like today’s Bible verse, which is a declaration of blessing for all God’s children in any generation.

“He will bless those who fear the Lord, Both small and great.” (Psalm 115:13)

Pay attention to the Bible verse right after: “May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.”

“May the Lord give you increase more and more, You and your children.” (Psalm 115:14)

Increase is God’s will for His people.

God wants to give us more peace, wisdom, spiritual discernment and sensitivity, more strength, more influence, more joy, more faith, more love, more favor, and more material resources to bless others.

Now, it would have been great if the verse just said, “May God increase you,” or even if it said, “God increase you more.” But it says, “May God increase you more and more.” More and more!

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28)

Increase was God’s plan back to the garden of Eden. That was God’s plan for His family, and He has never changed that plan.

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Proverbs 1:5)

God wants us to increase in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, but we have to be willing to hear. Otherwise, we are nothing but fools; when we are looking to increase understanding, we need to ask ourselves, “Are we listening?”

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. 22 “How long, you [simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge.” (Proverbs 1:7, 22)

God’s promise to help us increase in wisdom is just one of His promises of increase to us. There is so much more that God wants to do to expand our lives and fill them with good things.

Be encouraged to seek the increase that God wants to give us as His child. One place to start is to study the wisdom of Proverbs and then listen to what God is teaching us.

As we spend time in God’s Word, He will honor us and give us an increase in both knowledge and wisdom so that we can grow not only in those things but also in faith, love, joy, and peace.

Today, let God work in us, stirring us to action to prepare for the increase God wants for our lives.

What do you need God to increase in your life?

Heavenly Father, I will let You work in me, stirring me to action to prepare for the increase You want for my life. I will be encouraged to seek the increase that You want to give me as Your child. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
