WALKING IN LOVE
This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
Welcoming friends and family into your home are one of the biggest things we missed this year. Whether it was bowls of delicious food or a cup of coffee, practicing hospitality is one of the greatest ways to show love.
“This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.” ( 2 John 1:6)
When today’s Bible verse was written, it was common to welcome traveling teachers or missionaries into the home and show love to these visitors during their stay.
While John commends hospitality, he also tells us about a severe warning: Do not give false teachers a platform. Because what we might see as being kind is harming the people we care about.
When we influence someone who does not share the truth about Jesus, we are making it easier for them and others to wander from the truth. We do not have to be rude, but Paul says we should be careful. For example, we get to choose what we like on social media and invite people into our homes. We can welcome our family to Thanksgiving dinner without asking them to pray over the meal or speak at your Bible study. We can spend time with atheist friends without putting them in a position to share their worldview with our kids.
John also warns us about people who do not teach the truth: Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their wicked work.
“for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.” (2 John 1:11)
We all have a responsibility to protect those we influence with our family and friends. John encourages us to form a tight bond with each other and hold each other to the truth. Then we can show hospitality and share Jesus with non-believers without giving them a platform to speak into our lives.

Heavenly Father, This is love, that I walk according to Your commandments. This is the commandment, that as I have heard from the beginning, I should walk in it. You have called me in Love, and I must share Your Love with others. Thank You for leading me in Love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
