AUDIO VERSION

When life gets busy, certain routines can fall by the wayside. We do not eat as well or clean the house as much as we should. Maybe we start to sacrifice what is important for what is urgent, skipping time with God so we can make it to that appointment on time.

"My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, And all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever." (Psalms 145:21)

When life is stressful, and we are not taking the time to praise God as we should, we need to remind ourselves of what is important in our lives.

That is what David did in Psalm 145. He reminds himself to praise the Lord. David reflects on God's character and then starts to recall what God has already done for him. When our hearts are heavy, praising God is sometimes the last thing we feel like doing, but as we recount God's love and how much God has blessed our lives, our strength is renewed.

Sometimes, praise flows naturally from our hearts. Other times, praise focuses our hearts on what is real rather than what we feel. Like David, we will find no matter how we start, once we start praising God, the more we find to praise Him.

“As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To such as keep His covenant And to those who remember His commandments to do them. The Lord has established His throne in heaven. And His kingdom rules over all.” (Psalm 103:15-19)

The more we reflect on how He has been there in our lives, the more confidence we take into our day.

When we are late to work and still have to drop the kids off at school, we can praise God for giving us the opportunity to work and the means to drive. When the kids are acting difficult, we can praise God for the opportunity of being a parent and for His example of how to love correctly. When hard times come, we can praise God for the promise of eternity and the hope we have in knowing we can spend eternity with Him.

There never is a day when we have nothing to praise God because everything we have in life is worthy to be praised. Whatever your day brings today, remember to praise the Lord!

What can you praise God for today? Take time right now and see how many reasons you can find to praise God.

Heavenly Father, I will praise You because all that I have is from You. You give me the breath I breathe, and all the beauty of this world You created. You give me strength for each day. I will remember to praise You, as You are the giver of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
