GOD IS OUR STRENGTH AND SHIELD
The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.
Each one of us faces hardships and battles, and God protects, covers, hides, and gives us strength. He deflects the attacks of the enemy and ensures our well being in the middle of a battle.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.” (Psalms 28:7)
A shield is a piece of armor that has been used throughout the ages. Every civilization has understood the importance of a shield for protection, but God refers to Himself as a shield for a good reason.
“He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” (Psalms 91:4)
That means that even right now, while the enemy is trying to attack our health, freedom, and livelihood, we can rely on God as our strength and shield. God will hide us under His wings and protect us.
“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” (Ephesians 6: 14-16)
God declares Himself our shield, and we should always take His “shield of faith” in our daily spiritual battles. That very same shield of faith was used by Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego before thrown into the fiery furnace, and it protected them. It was used by Jesus when He was tempted by the enemy, and it deflected the temptation.
Now we can use that same “shield of faith,” too. Whatever fiery darts that the enemy may shoot at us today, we have God that will give us all the strength we need, and He will be a shield that will protect us.
Will you rely on God’s strength and shield today?
Heavenly Father, my strength, and my shield. I trust in You, and I am helped; therefore, my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song, I will praise You. I will do what Your Word says to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. In Jesus' name, Amen.
