TAKE THE NARROW GATE
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
There are two gates with two different ways we can take in life: the narrow gate or the wide gate. When we read, “Narrow is the gate,” we automatically assume life will be difficult if we choose the way that leads to life, but when we choose life, we live in God’s blessings and protection.
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” (Matthew 7:13)
We need to recognize there is a specific road we must walk on to reach a particular destination. It is as simple as that.
There are times, more than we would like to admit, that we do not want to do the right thing, mainly because we do not feel like doing it. Sometimes, we would rather stay in bed than read our Bible and have prayer time with God.
Occasionally, we would rather respond in anger to someone rude instead of responding in God’s love.
The bottom line, the way to life requires hard work and discipline; It has nothing with how we feel. God expects us all to do the right thing in every situation, not just when we “feel” like it.
God gives us the freedom to choose the right way or the wrong way; God expects us to choose the right way, and to enter the narrow gate. We have to live our lives by God’s Word and live by it obediently.
There are days when we do not feel like living obediently; however, we have learned from experience in life that it is faith, not feelings that lead to eternal life.
When it comes to the most critical issues of life, like where we will spend eternity, people might think all roads lead to God as long as a person is sincere, but Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate.”
If we believe in Jesus, then we can have confidence that we will be welcomed into Heaven. But if we have taken the wide gate, the popular road, the ultra-cool road, it will lead to destruction, and it will be too late on that final day.
What gate will you choose today?
Heavenly Father, I choose the way that leads to life, and I will live in Your blessings and protection. You have made the way possible, and I will live my life by Your Word and live by it obediently. This is the path I have chosen. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
