BUILDING YOUR HOUSE ON THE ROCK
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
Life is made by the choices we make and is built from the actions we take every day. How do we know that our world is not just going to fall apart when life becomes difficult?
“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.” (Luke 6:48)
We know by the choices we take as Believers, and the words Jesus spoke in the Sermon on the Mount give us a clear indication of what we should be prioritizing in our lives.
““Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:3-12)
Jesus says to hear the Words of God and do them. Each day there are opportunities to make God’s commandments in His word our own, by obeying them from our heart. It might be as simple as hearing Bible verses and singing about them, or reading the Bible and sharing Bible verses with family and friends on Facebook or Twitter.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
Being actively involved gives others the impression that we are building something with our spiritual lives so when the storms of life come along, such as financial hardship, being treated unfairly, sickness, problems in relationships, etc. it becomes evident to other people what kind of foundation we have built our lives on.
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)
If we build our house on the rock we remain standing not only for ourselves but for other people that are going through the storms of life too. We become an example for them to watch our faith and want to build their lives on the same foundation.
It is the people who have prayed and obeyed God’s commandments, who have built their house on the rock that will remain standing.
On what foundation have you built your life?
Heavenly Father, You are my Father God, You are my everything. I am so thankful my life is being built on the Rock and the foundation from Your Word. Everyone’s life is being built on something, and I am so thankful mine is on You, my maker. So many lives are built on sand that crumbles under anything and everything in life. On the Rock, I am immovable, steadfast, and firm, knowing my strength is always there for me. I will listen, pray, and obey Your commandments. I will pray for stability as I trust You for my every need. This is why I can walk in victory, no matter what comes against me in this life. All honor, praise, and glory belong to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
