KEEP YOUR EYES ON ETERNITY
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?
One way to overcome the fear of rejection is by keeping the proper perspective. We can listen to other people’s opinions but never value them more than God’s Word.
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?” (Isaiah 51:12)
Other people are not God, and their opinions are not going to last. The secret to success is to outlast our critics and to realize that only eternity matters. God is the only one who we can count on.
When people put us down, do not assume their judgments are the same as God’s. Do not automatically accept someone’s criticism; instead, judge it for what it is worth.
Why does this matter? Because when people’s approval becomes most important to us, we set ourselves up to live in fear of rejection.
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
If we recognize how much God is for us, it gives us the ability to withstand tremendous rejection from other people.
For some people, all that matters is popularity, fame, or recognition. They think: “What do other people think of me? How do I look to everybody else? Image is everything!”
If we live this way, we are at the mercy of everyone else’s judgments. If someone thinks we are wrong, then we must be bad.
The good news is God never intended for us to live this way. It is as if God was saying to us, “Why are we listening to them? I am the one that counts. They are no more enduring than grass.”
Paul said his goal in life was to please God, not others. We all have a choice. We can choose to live to please God or to please other people.
We can not seek the approval of both at the same time. We have to decide who we want to impress. Just remember who is “no more enduring than grass” and who is “the one who strengthens you.”
God is for us, and God wants to see us succeed. Choose to live for God today.
Who are you more interested in pleasing? People or God?
Heavenly Father, I will live for You today. If You are for me, who can be against me? I know You want the best for me, and You alone will guide me into all truth. I know Your promises to me are all I need, and when I meditate Your Words, I will succeed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
