HEART, SOUL, MIND, AND STRENGTH
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
One day a man asked Jesus which, of all the commandments, was the most important. Jesus answered him like this in today’s Bible verse.
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30)
God did not put us on this planet to mark things off our to-do lists. God put us here to learn to love Him with our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Loving God with all our heart often happens when we are talking. It is how we communicate with the world. Loving God with our soul happens when we are feeling and sharing compassion. We love God with our mind as we are thinking when we are giving consideration to others. Loving God with our strength happens as we are doing and making a contribution to the world.
Another way to say it is that we can love God with all our talk, all our feelings, all our thinking, and all our acting.
God calls each one of us to love Him in all of those ways. The world needs communication, compassion, consideration, and contribution from every Believer.
The reality is that our personality causes us to be more natural toward either the heart, soul, mind, or strength.
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29)
We can use our abilities to guide, direct, and point others to God. Do not just talk about it; start doing it. See how God uses our words and actions to make a difference in the world.
How are you using your words to build others up and help them move in the direction of God’s Word?
Heavenly Father, may my life reflect You in all I say, think, and do. I want others to see You and Your ways in my life. You gave me so much by sending Jesus to the cross for me. How can I not live for You each moment of the day! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
