BE SURE JESUS IS NEXT TO YOU
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?
When we read Mark 4, what stands out is that they took Him along in the boat as He was. We often try to make Jesus fit into our mold of what we want Him to be.
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? Mark 4:39-40
Or worse, we do not take Him with us at all. We do not let Him in our boat; we do life alone, figuring we can handle whatever comes by ourselves.
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. Mark 4:37
In this, we can relate. We may never have been out at sea when a storm rolls in, but we have felt the winds of life starting to blow at hurricane force.
We have felt like the waves of obstacles are starting to overwhelm us. Our boat of life may be filled with the pressures and problems of the pandemic, and we might not even be able to see the way out of the storm.
But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? Mark 4:38
During these storms, we might get a little irritated at God sometimes, asking Him if He cares. Sometimes we think God should show some of the stress we feel, and no, He is peaceful and resting.
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39
As soon as they asked, Jesus acted. As soon as we pray, God acts. God is aware of His authority and knows the storm has to obey His every command. The wind and the waves are all under God's command.
Suddenly, the storm stills at the Word of God, and peace instantly descends. This is what the Word of God is in our lives today. We have an entire book of storm-calming, virus-eliminating, peace, be still words from God waiting for us to open it and dive in.
But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? Mark 4:40
The disciples of Jesus had already seen miracle after miracle. Then a storm came, and suddenly they forgot Whom they had in the boat. That is so us sometimes! Why should we fear? We know that God has authority over all, and we know Jesus.
And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him! Mark 4:41
In our lives, we need to realize that Jesus is in the boat with us. We have no reason to fear the threatening storms of life because God can speak to the storm, and it must obey His command.
Every day we need to connect with God and keep Him in the center of our lives. To spend time in His word and fill our minds and hearts with those words of authority and peace. When the winds blow, and the waves rise, we want the Peace, be still when Jesus is right there with us.
Will you make sure that Jesus is right there next to you today?
Heavenly Father, I ask You for Your Holy Spirit’s help in my life today. I desire to walk in obedience to Your Word. Every day I need to connect with You and keep You in the center of my life. To spend time in Your Word and fill my mind and heart with those words of authority and peace. When the winds blow, and the waves rise, I want the Peace, be still as Jesus is right there with me. Thank You for answering my prayer. In Jesus name, Amen
