Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

AUDIO VERSION

Jesus gave instructions to His Disciples, explaining what they should do when He was gone and sharing with them about who was to come.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12

Obedience can be challenging, and having to submit to someone else’s authority can sometimes be challenging. It may seem easier to do when we feel like it, but Jesus is clear about who is in charge all the time, as He obeyed His Father.

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. John 14:1

The more important part is putting those words into action. We need to do it when we read about giving generously to the poor. When we read about forgiving our neighbor, we have to forgive them.

This is true obedience regardless of how we feel or who was right or wrong in the situation.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

Jesus says that He will give us the desire to be obedient. As we learn more about Him, we will want nothing more than to be just like Him.

If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:14

Jesus taught many things about prayer and its central role in our lives. He also promised that our prayers would be answered when we obey His Word and seek Him.

Because of the atoning death of Jesus on the cross, we can approach God and be assured that we will receive an answer to our prayers.

If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. Psalm 66:18

God looks at our heart attitude. If we ask for forgiveness, He will hear our prayers and respond, but He is not obligated to listen when He sees a hard heart.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

Next time you pray, start with praise and thanksgiving to God for His love and to Jesus for dying in your place on the cross. Then thank God for answering your prayers.

What is one thing you can do today to make your life look more like Jesus? Pray!

Heavenly Father, I am so blessed to be able to call You Father. As Jesus paid the debt for my sins, I want to believe, receive, and do what Your Word commands. As I meditate on Your Words, Your Holy Spirit will lead me, speak to me, and guide me in righteousness. You are my provider, my strengthener, and my peace. This is a life of joy and peace in believing. Now I can walk in the power of Your might, being an overcomer of all that is around me. In Jesus name, Amen.
