CHOSEN FOR COURAGE
And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, The Lord is with you uh, you mighty man of valor!
Gideon was not feeling very mighty when the Angel of the Lord appeared to him. He was hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat in fear of the Midianites. Yet God called him a mighty man of valor.
And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor! Judges 6:12
That is the beauty of this Bible verse, God saw something in Gideon that Gideon could not see in himself.
Often, we view ourselves through the lens of our current situation, insecurities, or past failures, but God looks at us through the lens of His calling and power. When He calls us, He doesn’t speak to who we think we are, He speaks to who He knows we are in Him.
Even though Gideon was hesitant, doubtful, and feeling unqualified, God was patient. He did not choose Gideon because of his strength; He chose him because He would be his strength. The Lord promised His presence, and that is what made Gideon mighty, not his circumstances or abilities.
We may find ourselves in seasons where fear, discouragement, or doubt creep in. Maybe we are hiding from something, avoiding a challenge, or feeling overlooked, but just like Gideon, God meets us in those places, and when He speaks, He reminds us that His presence changes everything.
You do not have to feel brave to be called brave. You do not have to be fearless to be chosen. When the Lord is with you, He equips you with everything you need. He sees the courage He placed in you, even when all you see is weakness.
Today, let this devotion sink in. Hear the Lord speak over your life: The Lord is with you, you mighty man or woman of valor. Believe it, walk in it. You are stronger than you know because God is with you, and that is more than enough.
Heavenly Father, even when I feel weak, remind me that You are with me. Help me to see myself the way You do. Give me the courage to step out in faith, knowing You have called me and equipped me. Let Your presence make me bold. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
