THE IMAGE OF GOD
Paul reveals a powerful truth about Jesus, one that helps us grasp the depth of who He is.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15
Paul is telling us that Jesus perfectly reflects God. Though we can not physically see God, Jesus shows us exactly what God is like. His compassion, wisdom, power, and love are all on display through Christ. We get a clear picture of the character of God whenever we read about the actions, words, and interactions of Jesus with people. This is not a blurred or partial image, it is the fullness of God revealed.
In Bible times, the firstborn son had a special position of honor and inheritance. Jesus holds that place of ultimate authority over all things. He existed before anything was made and is in charge of everything.
This means we can trust Jesus with our lives. Whether we face confusion or uncertainty, Jesus is the One who holds everything together and knows the way forward. His authority is not distant or detached, it is personal. Jesus came to live among us, to show us who God is, and to rescue us through His victory over death.
You can take comfort in knowing that the same Jesus who walked on this earth, healed the sick, and calmed the storm is the One ruling over everything. He is intimately involved in your life and cares deeply for you. Jesus is the image of God, and as the firstborn over all creation, He came to show you who God is so that you can have a relationship with Him.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful to know You as Father God. Jesus came to rescue me through His death burial and resurrection from the dead. I am so thankful I listened and I am a child of Yours. I thank You and praise You in the name of Jesus. Amen.
