PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
The Holy Spirit works in us by bringing the truth, and that truth is the Word of God. The Holy Spirit uses it to cut apart the world's lies and reveal the truth upon which we can stand.
“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” (James 5:7-8)
James has just finished giving warnings about seeking satisfaction in what worldly riches can bring because none of that lasts.
James then tells us to be patient for Jesus' coming. This is what the Holy Spirit gives us to believe instead of the world's fake news, and it is the same truth the Holy Spirit uses to kill the lies of immediate gratification.
The Bible tells us that patience is from the Holy Spirit's work in us. It is not like our instant gratification culture helps us develop such a virtue, and not at all.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
Fake news has been around since the Garden of Eden and is not something the media invented. The lie of instant gratification is that we deserve the best, and we deserve it now.
This leaves us to think that life is incomplete without the things we need and that we will never have joy without them. Now that is fake news!
What is that truth?
It is the reality that Jesus will come again, and our joy will be full forever.
We are not in harvest time yet, but we know the harvest is coming, which empowers us to have patience with the rains that pour down this season.
Knowing that Jesus is coming and that He will make all things right forever. This truth empowers us to live in the present with patience and to endure the long seasons of waiting.
Patience is a gift from the Holy Spirit that bears fruit in our lives.
Is the Holy Spirit bearing patience in your life?
Heavenly Father, I desire for the work of Your Holy Spirit to lead me in the fruit of Your Holy Spirit. I know this world does not offer peace and patience and this is so needed in today’s world. Please use me in these areas so I can carry the light of You and Your Word to those around me. When Your Holy Spirit is alive in me, I will be able to show the world You, by my peace and patience. Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
