AUDIO VERSION

Each day we are amazed at what we read in the news about the war in Ukraine that has been raging the past month. The horrible acts committed are endless, and it is heartbreaking, disturbing, and it seems that people always find new ways to do evil things.

"Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Genesis 6:5)

Although our world probably does not yet compare to the days of Noah, darkness seems to be on a steady increase.

Today's Bible verse paints a very bad picture of the state of humankind during Noah's lifetime, describing how far we had gone away from our beginning in the Garden of Eden.

The people's sinfulness grieved God's heart He had so lovingly created. Because God is extremely patient with us, it takes more than we can imagine for God to reach the point of regret.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

God calls us to do the right thing, seek justice, and defend the oppressed. Take care of the fatherless; plead the widow's case.

“Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17)

Just like with Noah, the condition of our present-day world does not excuse us from doing what is right and just in the eyes of God. Although it may seem like it is easier said than done,

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

As we watch the war unfold in Ukraine, we need to ask God for His peace to rule in the minds and hearts of everyone involved.

No matter what darkness is happening in the world, we can walk faithfully before God and show God's love to others that need our help and prayers right now.

Heavenly Father, I will show love and kindness before others. I do not understand all that is happening with others, but I do know what is going on with me. I will do Your will by praying for others and walking in love, and seeking how You would speak in this time of conflict around us. I seek You for Your Words of Wisdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
