FAITH INSTEAD OF FEELINGS
For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it
As Believers, we are called to live by faith. Yet so many of us choose to live by our feelings. Our feelings inform our reactions to life and direct our every step. If a nice feeling does not accompany a path, it is not the one we look to take.
"For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance." (Romans 8:24-25)
The Bible is quick to tell us that our feelings can not be trusted.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;” (Proverbs 3:5)
We do not have confidence in a leader who is always second-guessing and changing their plan of action. Why would we trust our feelings any better when they are not sure and are poorly informed?
Our feelings are easily influenced and changed by words, actions, and tones. Stop and look to God's Word when we are tempted to listen to our feelings and compare what we are feeling to what God says.
God and His Word should inform our feelings, not the other way around.
What are you led by? What directs your decisions, actions, words, and thoughts?
Heavenly Father, I will look to You in and for all things. I put away any feelings, actions, and thoughts that would come against my mind and that would get into my heart and would lead me in a wrong direction. I desire the influence of Your Word, and I will walk by faith, not by sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
