KINDNESS MATTERS
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
It is hard to spend time with someone unpleasant to be around because they complain and find fault in everything around them even when everything around them seems like there is nothing to complain about.
"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:32)
Now, imagine the kindest person you have ever met. What is the difference? What makes that person so kind? What kind of person do you want to be to others?
The Bible has a lot to say about being kind. When we think about being kind, our own reflection should begin with God Himself.
“that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:7-9)
Because of God's kindness, Jesus came into our world, cleansing our hearts by the Holy Spirit, and giving us our eternal hope.
Our salvation is not because we have been good to others; it is because of God's grace (an expression of God's kindness). The reason behind that is because God Himself is kind, even when we are not.
Take some time this week to reflect on God's kindness in your life. Look at all the ways you have been kind to others. Then, ask God to show you areas in your life where you need to improve on being kind to others and ask God for help to overcome those areas.
Will you make a point to be kind to others today?
Heavenly Father, Your Word says to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God, for Christ’s sake has forgiven me. I want to live that life, no matter what is happening around me. I may not like what I see, but what would Jesus say or do. I want to show others Jesus who lives in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
