AUDIO VERSION

Having watched children grow up and become self-sufficient, it is easy to forget how dependent they were when they were younger. We get to relive watching a baby that needs everything to survive become a walking, talking little person and eventually become an adult.

"Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:2-3)

When we read today's Bible verses, we are reminded that we are pretty much self-sufficient as mature adults from a worldly perspective. We make our own money. We are alive, and we are not alone. The key word in the first sentence of this paragraph is "worldly."

“in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—” (Colossians 1:22)

The reality is that God is our provider; Jesus is the reason we are acceptable to God. We are not self-sufficient without Him. We are dependent on God for everything, just as a child is dependent on their parents for survival.

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

As adults, we can become too self-sufficient and have too big of an ego, and do not enjoy our lives. A child finds ways to enjoy almost anything. A child can turn almost anything into a game so that they can enjoy it. We should all have that attitude. We, too, can choose an attitude of enjoying each moment in a new way by trusting God with our lives.

Remember, It is a child's nature to trust. As Believers, it is in our nature to trust God. We need to pray that God will help us focus on Him like a child that depends on their parents, realizing we need to depend on God for everything that matters.

Do you depend on God for everything?

Heavenly Father, I want my walk with You to be lived in dependence upon You. You are my source of life. You are my very breath. I will depend on You in all that I am, say, and do. You have given Your Word to show me how to depend on You. I love You, Father God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
