THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:37-38

For most people, “witnessing” is scary. It can be an intimidating task. We wonder, will the person make fun of me? What if the person asks questions? Will I be able to answer correctly? Our minds become filled with doubt about our ability to witness. But as Believers, we are commanded by Jesus to take the Gospel to the people who need to hear it.

“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

We may feel that there is not anyone that we can witness to and that all the people we associate with are already saved. We mistakenly think that everyone around us is already saved, but when we take a closer look, we can see that there are so many people in our lives who need Jesus. 

They may be co-workers, friends, or even members of our family. God, in His wisdom, has placed us where we are in life for a reason, and He puts these people in our path so that we can tell them the good news of salvation. This is our mission field. This is our “divine appointment.” Jesus calls it “a harvest.”

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

 
We need to ask ourselves, are we willing to step out of our comfort zone and follow the command of Jesus? It is hard sometimes, especially when we feel like the person we are witnessing to will not believe us. When that happens, Jesus says:

“And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.” (Matthew 10:14)

There will be times in our lives when the person we were witnessing to will not accept Jesus. Do not be discouraged when that happens. Jesus told us that some would Believe in Him and others will not. We need to keep telling everyone we meet about Him and then the next person, and then the next. It is not up to us whether they become a Believer or not. 

We do not have the power to make anyone Believe. That is their decision, but it is our job to tell them about the Gospel, pray for them, and disciple them if they decide to accept Jesus as their Savior. Leave everything else to the Holy Spirit, and He will do the rest.

Our prayer for you today is this, that you will be encouraged to spread the Gospel of Jesus to the people in your life. All you need to be an effective witness is a willing heart. 

God will give you the right words to speak, and God will bring to remembrance the right Bible verses at the right time. Your mission field is right in front of you, and the harvest is plentiful. God will bless you in your pursuit of His Kingdom today and forever!

Heavenly Father, I see the harvest is plentiful right before me, and I want to be that laborer that is obedient to Your will. I will listen to Your Holy Spirit within as to when to speak and to whom. I know You will use me as I seek You first. I want others to share in this too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
