SHINE FOR JESUS
The news headlines bring a stark reality of how life has changed in the last two weeks. Things that you would think were impossible are now a grim reality. The story of yet another tragedy gets blurred out by another, A sense of despair washes over us.
"Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!" (Psalm 80:7)
Is there anything that we can do about the darkness in the world right now? It seems so overwhelming, but the only way to get rid of the darkness is to turn on the light.
Darkness only exists where there is no light. Trying to go after the darkness directly is like chasing your shadow. You cannot catch it and make it go away. Light is the only thing powerful enough to make the darkness leave. Jesus made it very clear, during the Sermon on the Mount, that we are the light of the world. Our job is to shine for Jesus.
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” (John 8:12)
Imagine a world full of darkness. Then, with four small words from God, “Let there be light” and light appears.
“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:2-3)
The same God who brought light to the world also brings it to our lives. The key is not to try harder, but to plug directly into the source.
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6)
The ways we shine make more of a difference than we can see. Trying to shine on our own is tiring. Instead, we are called to be connected to God and remain in Him. When we are connected, His light shines through us in a powerful, brilliant way that changes the world.
Will you shine for Jesus today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the Light within me so I can shine brightly for the world around me. When it seems darkness is taking over, use me to make a difference. I ask that You will help me share Your love, joy, and peace in any circumstance - especially right now. You are the only hope I need, and the One light that will never burn out, be overcome or fade away. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
