JESUS IS OUR ADVOCATE

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

AUDIO VERSION

The word advocate means someone who pleads our cause or case. Jesus acts as our behalf, pleading our case before God. If we do sin, do we lose our salvation? If we are saved, will we ever sin again? If we do sin again, what should we do to get rid of the feeling of guilt and sadness?

"My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world." (1 John 2:1-2)

John is telling us about God's provision for sin. The Holy Spirit will help us overcome sin, not encourage us to practice it. John said, "these things I write to you, so that you may not sin."

If we have sinned or failed, we cannot stand in the Presence of God without a consciousness of sin. Jesus is the One Who can go in on our behalf. Jesus Christ, the Righteous. He is the substitute for our sins; and not only for our sins, but for the sins of the whole world.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

When we are tempted by the enemy, and we sin, we need to confess our sins to God, because He is faithful and just to forgive us of all our sins, and to cleanse us from all of our unrighteousness.

If a person is born again, if they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they do not want to do wrong. Often the enemy tempts us through our human emotions and overcomes us because we are not strong spiritually.

“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)

God wants us to be restored to full fellowship with Him. When people want to be restored, it is our responsibility to show them how to be restored.

Jesus restores to us our lost righteousness when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. But He does way more than just forgive us of our sins; He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. He cleanses us from that sin consciousness or spiritual inferiority complex that would keep us from going into God's Presence.

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

We do not have to live under a cloud of fear and gloom. When we accept Jesus as our Savior and have the life and nature of God in us, we do not want to do wrong.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Grace is unmerited favor. When we fail, that is the time we need grace; that is when we need mercy. God's mercy and grace are always available to us if we break God's law. All we need to do is call on Jesus, our Advocate!

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for Jesus, Who took all my guilt and shame from my past. I am thankful I have the Name that is above every name, Jesus, to go to when I do anything wrong, as He is my Advocate. I now walk in my choice of renewing my mind with Your Word daily, in fellowship and prayer with You, then taking the Word and meditating on it, so Your Word grows deep within my heart. Out of that good treasure of Your Word in my heart, my treasure within me will be Your Words coming out of my mouth. I will speak Your Words to the mountains in my life, just as Jesus did. I will not allow the enemy of defeat to be upon me, as I have You, the Holy One, living inside me. All this because of Your Great Love for me. Thank You, Father God. In Jesus’, name, Amen.
