SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Galatians 3:26-27 

Have you ever started something off doing well, but at some point later, things went off course? Maybe it is an exercise program or a diet. Or perhaps you have supervised a team, got them started on a project. Things were going well when you left, but when you returned, you found out they were doing it wrong.

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galatians 3:26-27)

This is what happened to Paul and his companions when they were commissioned as missionaries, and on their first missionary trip, they had traveled through southern Galatia, spreading the gospel message and establishing churches. 

Paul traveled through Galatia on each of his first three missionary trips. Most of the people who believed in Jesus for salvation were Jews or Gentiles who had converted to Judaism. 

Paul clearly preached Jesus as the true Messiah and the good news of salvation by faith in Jesus to them. When Paul got home from his first mission trip, he received some bad news from the churches in Galatia. The church leaders in Galatia were not teaching salvation by faith in Jesus alone. They were saying that you can not find salvation unless you first follow the way of the Jews.

Paul wrote and sent the letter we call today the book of Galatians, and in this part of the letter, he is telling the Galatian Believers that the law of the old covenant enslaves us, but Jesus frees us and makes us actually sons and daughters of God.

If you do not know Jesus, you are a slave to something. The purpose of God’s law is to show all people that truth. It is not that we just need to grow up and mature. We need to be redeemed, bought out of a situation in which we are powerless to do anything.

What is it about being a part of God’s family? What does it really mean?

God purchased us to redeem us from the captivity of sin, and God paid our price and freed us through Jesus. We can only understand and live out our birthright by having a relationship with God. That has to be the absolute priority in our lives. We can not lose sight of Jesus and go off course.

You can have all the support in the world, but if you lose your way, you are not going to do anything. We will never lose our way if we, as Believers, live as sons and daughters of God by faith in Jesus.

How is your relationship with God? 

HHeavenly Father, I am a child of Yours. I am a believer. I will live as a child of Yours. I can only understand and live out my birthright by having a relationship with You. That relationship is lived out in my life as I recognize You as my Father, Jesus as Lord of my life, and Your Holy Spirit living in me to guide me along my way. That has to be the absolute priority in my life. I can not lose sight of Jesus and go off course. When Your Word is first place of authority in my life, I will live as Your Word says. I will not be a slave to anything this world offers. I am a child of Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
