SPEAKING LIFE DAILY

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Jesus lovingly reminds us that our words matter. They are more than just sounds—they show what is really happening inside our hearts. Just like a tree naturally produces fruit that matches its kind, the things we say reflect the true condition of our hearts.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
When kindness, faith, gratitude, and honesty fill our hearts, those beautiful qualities naturally shine through in our conversations. But if bitterness, anger, jealousy, or pride start to take root, those feelings will eventually show up in our words, too.
Sometimes, we try to change our words without looking at what’s going on in our hearts. We might try to speak more positively or act more kindly, but if we ignore the feelings growing beneath the surface, the change will not last. Jesus shows us that real, lasting change starts from the inside out. When God transforms our hearts, our words begin to change all on their own.
Jesus invites us to notice what we are storing in our hearts. He calls it a “treasure.” Each day, we fill our hearts with all sorts of things—the books we read, the conversations we share, the media we enjoy, and the thoughts we hold close. All of these become part of our heart’s treasure.
When we spend time soaking in God’s Word, praying with trust, and keeping our thoughts centered on Him, we store up good treasure in our hearts. When challenges come, encouragement flows out instead of despair. Faith rises up instead of fear. Grace shines out instead of harshness.
The wonderful news is that God is an expert at transforming hearts. He does not just tidy up our words; He lovingly renews the very source from which they flow. As we walk with Him day by day, the Holy Spirit gently shapes our thoughts, attitudes, and desires. Little by little, our words become a beautiful reflection of His work inside us.
Today, try listening kindly to your words—they can be a gentle mirror of your heart. If you notice places that need a little care or change, bring them to the Lord. Invite Him to fill your heart with His truth, love, and wisdom, so your words will honor Him and lift up those around you. When your heart is full of God’s goodness, your words will overflow with it, too.
Heavenly Father, fill my heart with Your truth, love, and wisdom. Help me store up good treasure through Your Word so my words bring encouragement, faith, and grace to others. Let my speech reflect Your work within me each day. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
