NEW WAY OF LIVING
Now, think about that for a moment. Loving those who love us back is one thing, but loving our enemies is a whole different ball game. It is not the easiest thing to wrap our heads around.
But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. Luke 6:27
Jesus was not throwing out nice sounding phrases. He was showing us a new way of living.
Loving our enemies is not about condoning their actions or pretending they have not hurt us. It is about choosing to respond with love and kindness even when it is the last thing we feel like doing.
Think about someone who has wronged you. Maybe they have hurt you or betrayed your trust. It is natural to want to retaliate or hold onto resentment. But what if, instead, we chose to respond with love? What if we prayed for them and sought to do them good?
It is not easy; it is difficult. It goes against our natural instincts, but something powerful happens when we choose to love our enemies.
We break the cycle of hatred and revenge and show the world a glimpse of the incredible grace and forgiveness of God working through us.
When we love our enemies, we are not doing it on our strength.
The Holy Spirit empowers us and guides us every step of the way. We can tap into His love, patience, and compassion, letting them flow through us to those who have wronged us.
Challenge yourself today to take the words of Jesus to heart and love the people who have wronged you by choosing forgiveness over bitterness and kindness over retaliation.
As you do, watch how God can transform even the most broken relationships and bring healing and restoration.
It will not be easy, but it is possible with the help of God. In loving your enemies, you will discover a deeper understanding of the boundless love God has for you.
Heavenly Father, I know the only way I show the love of You is by making You my Lord and Savior. Your Holy Spirit within directs me in the pathway of Love. For You to truly lead me, I must walk in love. Love has and shows many aspects, and I ask You to show me where I lack. I thank You for such great love that we can display to and from our creator. Thank You for living in me as I submit to You. Thank You, Father. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
