WHAT LASTS FOREVER
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Every day, so many things compete for our attention. Success, money, popularity, possessions, and pleasure all seem to promise lasting happiness, but in the end, they never truly satisfy our hearts.
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17
Trends change, wealth can disappear, health can decline, and even the things we treasure most on earth will one day fade away. John gently reminds us of this simple but powerful truth: the world is passing away.
That does not mean we should ignore our responsibilities or miss out on enjoying God’s blessings. Instead, it is about keeping our priorities in the right order. God invites us to hold tightly to Him, while holding loosely to the temporary things of this life. When our identity is rooted in Jesus rather than in worldly achievements, we find a peace that circumstances can not take away.
Those who do the will of God abide forever. God's promises never expire. His love never fades. His kingdom will never end. Even as everything around us changes, God stays close and remains faithful through every season of life.
Doing God’s will is not about earning salvation or being perfect. It is the natural response of a heart that loves Him. As we read His Word, spend time in prayer, and follow His leading, our lives begin to reflect His character. Little by little, our focus shifts from temporary rewards to eternal treasures.
When disappointments come, remember they are only temporary. When blessings come, receive them with gratitude, but do not let them become your greatest treasure. God alone is worthy of that special place in your heart. The love you give, the ways you serve others, the hope you share, and the faithfulness you show—these are the things that last far longer than anything this world offers.
Today is another opportunity to choose what truly lasts. Build your life on God’s Word, instead of the shifting circumstances around you. Let His Word guide your decisions, your relationships, and your dreams. While the world will pass away, everyone who trusts God and walks with Him has the assurance of eternal life that can never be taken away. In God, what matters most will last forever.
Heavenly Father, help me value what lasts forever above what fades away. Guide my heart to do Your will, trust Your promises, and walk faithfully each day. Keep my eyes fixed on You and fill me with lasting peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
