A HEART THAT TRULY SEEKS GOD
As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever
God cares about more than just how things look on the outside—He truly wants a real, loving relationship with each of us. He invites us to trust Him, love Him, and follow Him with our hearts.
As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9
David shares with Solomon advice that goes far beyond the duties of being king. He reminds his son that knowing God personally matters far more than knowing facts about Him.
There’s a big difference between just going through the motions of faith and truly walking with God. We might attend church, read the Bible, and say the right things, but still feel far away inside. God sees beyond what we do on the outside—He understands our thoughts and intentions, and He knows when our devotion comes from love.
That truth should comfort us, not frighten us. We never have to pretend with God—He already knows our struggles, doubts, weaknesses, and hopes. When we come to Him honestly, we find that He gladly welcomes anyone who sincerely seeks Him.
David encourages Solomon to serve God with a loyal heart and a receptive mind. Being faithful doesn’t just mean following God when life is easy—it means trusting Him even when things are tough, when answers take time, or when doing what’s right feels hard.
When we have a willing mind, we come to God ready to learn, grow, and let go of our own plans so He can guide us. Even when we don’t understand everything, we can trust that God knows our hearts better than anyone.
When we seek God, we will find Him—He is never hiding from us. God invites us to come close, listen to His Word, and enjoy the peace that comes from truly knowing Him.
Today, take a moment to look at your heart. Are you seeking God just for what He can give you, or because you truly want to know Him better?
Make space for God in your choices, your words, and your quiet moments. When you sincerely seek Him, you will discover that His presence is the most precious treasure.
Heavenly Father, give me a loyal heart and a willing mind. Help me seek You sincerely, serve You faithfully, and trust You completely. Search my heart, guide my thoughts, and draw me closer to You each day. May my life reflect my love for You. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
